Description
Cosmophasis thalassina is a very pretty jumping spider found in Northern Australia, including NT and Queensland. They are generally found in rainforest and prefer areas near rivers and other bodies of water. Males are metallic green or blue with black bands. They are similar to males of another species, Cosmophasis micariodes but C. micariodes has black bands on the carapace that reach all the way to the edge of the carapace while those of C. thalassina do not. They move extremely quickly and are constantly waving the pedipalps and the abdomen, possibly mimicking a wasp. Juveniles often have white abdomens with a single black stripe and lack black areas on the carapace too.
