Description
The desert pebble mimicking jumping spider is a medium sized species of jumping spider found on mallee sand in arid SA, where they mimic sand grains and pebbles. They have been observed eating tiny black ants – about the size of a pinhead. They do well when fed pinheads.
This species grows to 7mm and requires red desert sand to thrive. They like to create a silk sack, and then roll in the sand, so do not be alarmed if you can’t see your jumping spider. They tend to be more active with first daylight and early mornings, and then again late afternoons to early evening.
We recommend the Mini bug box with side door used horizontally or The cube with “Desert boy” kit selected.
Please note: All jumping spiders are not as suited to keeping in captivity than other species. Jumping spiders can live 1-2 years in captivity, however males often perish more easily. All jumping spiders are sold as adults and thus we cannot establish their true age.
