Description
Sandalodes bipencilliatus is a medium-large species of jumping spider found in NSW and QLD. Males have 2 distinctive crests of hair on top of the eyes, giving them a horned appearance. Females have a brown abdomen with a thick white median band bordered by black. The carapace is dark reddish-brown, being darker towards the back and lighter red towards the ocular region. The carapace too has a white median band, but shorter and wider and lacking black edging. The legs are black with long white hairs. The “horns” of the male are very reminiscent of a cat’s triangle-shaped ears. Females grow to 14mm while males grow to 12mm.
