Description
This is possibly our largest jumping spider in Australia – reaching 17mm in body length and is only rivalled by a few others, such as Bavia aericeps. They are found in the Northern Territory, Kimberley region of North-west WA and in Queensland.
They are usually a bright green in colour but can be yellow or orange. Females have red spots bordered by white on top of their heads, while males have a fringe of hair around the face that gives them a “monkey face” appearance. Juveniles are lemon-yellow.
These jumpers will bite if mishandled. We don’t recommend handling this species as they can easily get hurt or can deliver a somewhat painful bite if threatened, they have large fangs and are able to penetrate human skin unlike most jumpers.
