Description
These small, harmless millipedes are famous for rolling into a tight, glossy ball when disturbed. They are detritivores (eat decaying matter) and make interesting, low-maintenance display pets.
Enclosure
- Use a secure glass or plastic tank with a tight-fitting, ventilated lid (they are strong pushers).
- Size: Small tank (e.g. 20–40 cm long) is fine for 1–3 individuals.
- Substrate: 8–15 cm deep mix of moist coconut fibre/organic soil + plenty of leaf litter and rotting hardwood (avoid pine).
Diet
- Main food: Decaying leaf litter and rotting wood (their natural diet).
- Supplements: Small pieces of fresh vegetables, fruit, or calcium-rich foods occasionally.
- They mostly feed on the substrate itself.
Behaviour & Handling
- Nocturnal and shy — they spend most time hidden or rolled up.
- Gentle handling is okay, but limit it (stress from over-handling is common).
- They do not bite and lack strong chemical defences compared to other millipedes.
- Provide hides like bark or flat rocks.

Hank arrived safely and has settled into their new home. Such a cutie!!
Hank was packed super well with moist moss and arrived the day after dispatch.
No care sheet or instructions with this guy so do your own research before purchasing 🙂
This is my third purchase from Bug Frenzy- everything so far has been top notch.
