Description
Merulana helmsiana is a large, rather flattened native isopod found primarily on tree bark in NSW and some parts of Victoria. Like most native isopods they are very variable in colouration but most specimens are dark grey with a red fringe around the body. They also develop small white speckles as they age, this is usually not present in juveniles.
