Description

This is by far Australia’s prettiest wolf spider and also one of the largest and the most sought after.

They are restricted to remote arid regions in Central Australia. Adult females can grow up to 33mm in length. There’s 2 main colour forms, with one consisting of pale cream on black and the other a more vibrant yellow on black.

Adult males are grey-brown. Juveniles are paler and have reversed colours, instead of having a golden patch on the front half of the abdomen they have a black patch. The rest of the body is tan and will get more of the adult and sub-adult colouration as they mature, starting with black knees. They are burrowers and prefer heavy, sandy clay substrate.

I really adore my two Hoggicosa bicolor. They are not doing much at this time of year, but we are in the depths of winter. I am hoping this period will give them time to adjust to their new terrariums before Spring.
