Description
These small, ground dwelling mantises are found in dry savannah in inland Queensland, often on or near termite mounds. Though there is little evidence these mantises actually prey on termites, they are adapted to camouflage on termite mounds very well. Regular termite mounds will have similarly mottled brown coloured mantises while burnt termite mounds will have black mantises on, and so forth. these little mantises are very enthusiastic about food and can be quite friendly at times, but may be skittish.
The mantises have prominent red marks on the inner surface of the forearms, which they often wave around in a fashion similar to boxing, as do their close relatives Paraoxypilus (Boxing bark mantises)
