Description

This species of jumping spider is found under the bark of eucalyptus trees in southern Australia. They grow to 13mm in body length and build silken retreats underneath bark.  They are very active and inquisitive, and hardy in captivity. Despite their intimidating size, these are a timid species and can be handled safely if respect is given, like handling all spiders. Females and males are basically identical with males being slightly shaggier and more grey in colouration.

Care Tips:

This jumper should be fed X-small crickets – no bigger than the spider’s body size.

Enclosure should have bark hide available as this is their favourite hang-out place.  We recommend the Bug Box or Little Bug Box

We’ve fallen in love with Drew – she spent a few hours exploring her new Bug Box, then retreated under the bark for a day. We fed her a cricket, she made a little hammock for herself and is now bopping around having a great old time.

She is absolutely gorgeous. Caught a cricket to eat within a couple of minutes of being in her enclosure. I was so happy to see her eat as it was my main concern. She arrived a day earlier than expected, I was so excited. The enclosure I bought with her is excellent. I’ve called her Hazel.
