Description

Tube-web spiders are small spiders usually found in holes in wood, where they build a thick tube silk with 8-10 silk triples radiating out from the hole. When prey touches a tripling, the spider darts out to capture it. This species is found on red sand dunes in central Australia’s deserts. The burrows are not in wood, but in the sand. We have not noticed any triples but the burrow is heavily silk lined. While not visible in the photos, the abdomen Is insanely shiny with a blue-grey sheen to it. The spiders often play dead. If given shallow sand to burrow In, they may make up to 10 burrow entrances. Sand must be slightly moist to hold it’s shape.
