Description
Scolopendra morsitans is a species of large centipede found throughout Australia, coming in many, many different forms depending on locality.
They range in size from 90mm to about 190mm in length. This form grows to about 14-15cm and is found in SA’s northern mallee.
Juveniles are often less stripy with more vibrant blues and oranges.
These centipedes shelter under the ground or under rocks on mallee slopes and emerge at night after or during rain, where they seek out burrowing spiders and other prey items.
