Description

Phlogius is an unofficial genus of tarantulas that is currently called ‘Selenocosmia’. This genus is known for it’s fast growth rate and awesome webbing.

These are captive-bred juveniles that have been raised for about 2 years with a body length of approximately 20-25mm and a legspan of up to 45mm.  This species is from northern Queensland and the adults are widely regarded as Australia’s most beautiful. In older specimens for a few weeks to months after moulting the posterior half of the abdomen is shiny blue, the femurs of all legs a lovely dark blue and the rest of the leg (excluding the coxa and trochanter which form the base of the leg) are a nice baby blue. The ocular region has a blue tint and the rest of the spider is dark grey.

Tarantula slings should be fed crickets. Here at Bug frenzy we care about our bugs (even the feeders) and as such we don’t recommend “partially crushing the crickets heads” (As recommended by some keepers) as this is very painful for the cricket and quite frankly, cruel. They can be fed live crickets if they are smaller than the spider and the spider has constructed a burrow/web-retreat.

WARNING : Tarantulas have tarsal claws and scopula pads and can climb plastic and glass, be careful.

So excited to finally get one of these guys! Spider turned up happy and healthy, very active and happy to explore its new home. Overnight had made itself a burrow with plenty of webbing and was happy to eat. Already a gorgeous dark colour, can’t wait to see it grow!
