Mealworm beetles are small black beetles native to Europe, and the yellow worm-like larvae are used as feeders for various animals. They are useful for thin malnourished carnivores as mealworms are very high in fat, but this means they cannot be used as the sole diet. They are also extremely useful for predatory Carabid beetles.
These adult beetles will lay eggs in soil that will hatch into tiny larvae that then feed on grains and vegetables, moulting and growing until they pupate into an adult beetle.
