Description
Why do you need a springtail culture?
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get fungi, bacteria or mould growing in your invertebrate’s enclosure? Well, this is the time that you need springtails to clean that up for you and keep your enclosure free of fungi, decaying plants and animal materials. Most springtails eat microflora and some are also known to eat waste products from other insects or even their own.
When disturbed they spring (jump) erratically, sometimes over large distances. And hence, their name.
They are harmless, but very necessary to keep your other insects healthy. Perfect for bio-enclosures.
The kit consists of:
- Springtails starter (about 20-30 springtails)
- One plastic container to keep them in
- Demineralised water
- Charcoal (as substrate)
- Nutritional Yeast for feeding them

Great cleaning leftover foods from other critters. Very easy to care for and can multiply colonies. Highly recommended to have them in many specie tanks setup to make less cleaning or remove uneaten foods.

At first I couldn’t see any springtails and was worried that I set up the enclosure wrong. But sure enough they have multiplied and I now have a thriving culture. A very convenient little kit, literally as easy as 1,2,3. The colony has already multiplied overnight as I can see many tiny little springtails jumping all about along with a considerable amount of adult ones 🙂
